Below are some frequently asked questions we have posted up related to the products and services we offer here at Airtec Service.

  • How often should I have my equipment maintained?
  • Heating and Air Conditioning equipment should be serviced at six monthly intervals for optimum efficiency. Equipment in more critical areas such as Comms rooms may be maintained quarterly. During our maintenance visits we clean all indoor unit air filters, drip trays and condensate drains, check indoor coils are clean and treat with Hydro-Coil anti bacteria coil cleaner, check refrigerant circuits for evidence of leaks and running currents of all fan motors and compressors.
  • What are the benefits of air conditioning?
  • The benefits of air conditioning are to give a comfortable environment throughout the year. An air conditioning system can have two functions - heating and cooling. A well designed system can provide you and your employees with a comfortable working environment whatever the weather. Airtec Services can design a system to suit your individual needs. We take into account everything that can affect the heating and cooling load: the size of room, heat transfer through walls, doors and roofs, existing heating and lighting systems, IT equipment and occupancy levels. The size and orientation of the windows is also important. After carrying out a detailed site survey, we can design a system for you.
  • Can air conditioning equipment heat as well as cool?
  • Systems that heat as well as cool are referred to as heat pump systems. Heat pumps offer numerous advantages as a heating solution, as they can cool as well as heat, resulting in less initial investment and simplicity in operation and maintenance. Heat pumps also have an important advantage in the area of efficiency. Unlike fossil-fuel based heating systems, heat pumps extract available heat from the outside air. Heat pumps offer efficiency gains on the order of approximately 3:1 and higher, compared to electrical heating so for every unit of energy consumed by the heat pump, three or more units of heat are gained.
  • R22 refrigerant is illegal isn’t it?
  • Since 1st January 2015, it has been illegal to use R22 refrigerant to maintain or repair air conditioning systems in the UK. You should be planning to replace the equipment as soon as possible, otherwise if your air conditioning breaks down, in most cases it will be impossible to repair. If you have an enquiry or want to find out how the R22 Phase Out affects you, get in touch with us to help you.
  • Do I require an energy assessment?
  • An air conditioning inspection (TM44) is required if the effective rated output of systems within a building are more than 12kW. If you don’t get your air-conditioning inspected every 5 years, you can be fined £300. Your energy inspection will includes a visual assessment of your air conditioning system and an examination of your air conditioning equipment and controls. Inspections must be completed every five years. Airtec Services can arrange for an accredited assessor to carry out the assessment and compile a report showing the current efficiency of your equipment, suggestions for improving it’s efficiency, any faults and how to reduce your air conditioning usage. You don’t have to follow the recommendations, but it save you money if you do so.
